Here is how to tell the difference.
Why counterfeits are a real problem in K-beauty
Korean skincare is among the most counterfeited categories in cosmetics. The most copied items are the most popular ones — pimple patches, snail essences, peptide serums, viral sunscreens. Counterfeits typically enter through unofficial import channels, marketplace resellers and social accounts with no traceable supply chain.
The risk is not only that you paid for the wrong thing. A counterfeit is manufactured outside the brand's quality control, and you have no way of knowing what is in it.
What "authentic" actually means as a claim
Nothing, by itself. Any website can type the word. It is not verifiable, it is not issued by anyone, and no one checks it.
What is verifiable is authorization: a specific brand naming a specific seller for a specific territory. That is a checkable statement, because there is a document behind it and the brand can confirm or deny it.
Four questions to ask any seller
- Which brands are you authorized for? A real answer names brands. "All of them" is not an answer.
- Who supplies you? An authorized seller can name the brand or its official distributor.
- Can you show the authorization? Authorized sellers hold a letter or certificate naming them and the territory.
- Why is this so much cheaper? Deep discounts on popular items are the single most common counterfeit signal.
The claim to be careful with
"Official distributor of COSRX, SKIN1004, Anua and more" is a strong claim, because being a distributor for multiple brands means multiple separate agreements. It may be entirely true. It is also the kind of statement worth asking to see evidence for — from anyone, including us.
